Fiery crash injures three
and closes Interstate 10

Three people were injured in a fiery, five-vehicle crash about 2 p.m. today in theTillman's Corner area that brought eastbound traffic on Interstate 10 to a stop, authorities said.

"The crash remains under investigation, but it appears that traffic was slowing to a stop due to a separate accident near Rangeline Road when two vehicles collided causing a chain reaction," Cpl. Joe Piggott, an Alabama State Trooper spokesman, said.

State Troopers worked the crash and Mobile police helped direct traffic around the wreck, which occurred where I-10 crosses U.S. 90.

Piggott said James Denmon, 53, of Baker, Fla. was driving the truck which was destroyed by the fire. Denmon escaped injury.

The names of the driver of the car and the car's two passengers were taken to the University of South Alabama Medical Center for treatment, the trooper said. Their names and conditions were not immediately available.

Piggott said a pickup truck, tractor-trailer rig and a sport utility vehicle were the other vehicles in involved in the pileup.

The eastbound lanes on the interstate remained closed as of 8 p.m. today.
