54TH ANNUAL ALABAMA NAACP CONVENTION

Civic, political and religious leaders from across the country will come together Wednesday, October 4th 2006 at the Civil Rights Museum in Birmingham, AL to kick off “Freedom Week” and to help raise awareness and funds for the Alabama Conference of the NAACP.

Proceeds from Freedom Week helps the Alabama State Conference raise money for Alabama’s Y.E.S. (Youth Economic Systems) program designed to prepare youth for economic success as well as raise legal defense funds. Various corporate leaders have been invited to be the keynote speaker and guest speakers at this
year's Opening Ceremony reception.

As the dream continues to go forward into this next phase we take time to honor prominent team member Mrs. Rosa Parks, former secretary of the Montgomery branch of the NAACP, with a special tribute and dedication of the entire week “Freedom Week” as a Memorial in Rosa’s Honor.

Ed Vaughn, Alabama Conference President says the State Conference is working to bring state membership to 100,000 within the next 2-4 years.

This Event will provide our sponsors with unique opportunities to target a diverse audience. We anticipate an attendance of 5,000 concert and event attendees, and civic, political and religious leaders from across the country.

The Freedom Week’s various conferences, concerts, events, receptions, and dinner will occur over five days at several locations, including Birmingham and Montgomery. These events will include a grand opening reception, one benefit concert, and a membership & voter registration marathon .
